Despite the immense number of disabled, they remain a marginalized group that suffers widespread at all levels, difficulty in access to education and decent work.
SUPPORT TO PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY
After more than thirty years of civil war, Cambodia is today one of the countries with the highest number of physically disabled. This is due to two major factors, firstly, the large number of landmines, which were used during the conflict and are now destroying the lives of thousands of people. For another, the great difficulty in accessing basic health services (vaccines, drugs, trained staff etc ...).
From the Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang is nine years has worked to provide an opportunity for this group. The Prefecture works mainly in rural areas (80% of the population lives in these areas) as this group suffers the most from the difficulties arising from that disability.
The Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang is trying to find a solution to the difficulty in access to education, health and labor market insertion of disabled people in the Diocese of Battambang. The Prefecture is working closely with various NGOs in the search for such solutions. (International Committee of the Red Cross, Emergency Hospital, Handicap International, Caritas, Kruse Thmey school for blind children and deaf and collaboration with the Jesuit in Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey and Phnom Penh).
